Common Tuning Questions
Useful questions to ask before booking a remap or calibration. What is ECU tuning?
ECU tuning changes the calibration inside a vehicle control unit. The goal might be more power, better drivability, improved towing response, economy, motorsport use, or correcting a poor previous tune.
Is every tune the same?
No. Results depend on the vehicle, hardware condition, calibration method, tuner experience, testing equipment, and whether the file is written for that specific vehicle or supplied as a generic file.
Should the vehicle be checked first?
Yes. A healthy vehicle is much more likely to tune well. Fault codes, boost leaks, clutch slip, fuelling issues, blocked DPFs, tired injectors and worn sensors can all turn a simple tune into a problem.
Do I need a rolling road?
Not every job needs a dyno, but dyno testing can provide useful evidence. It can show baseline power, post-tune power, boost behaviour, fuelling patterns and whether the car is behaving consistently under load.
Does tuning affect warranty or insurance?
It can. Drivers should check warranty terms and tell their insurer about modifications. Remap Review cannot give legal, insurance or warranty advice.
What should I ask the tuner?
Ask who writes the file, whether logs are checked, whether the original file is saved, what happens if there is a fault, whether a dyno is used, and whether the tune suits the vehicle's current condition and hardware.
